The Functional Devices RIBU1C-RD is a 10-amp SPDT pilot control relay in a NEMA 1 Red housing, designed for fire alarm, smoke control, and life-safety system applications. The red enclosure version carries UL864 and California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) listings required for fire alarm and smoke control applications. Where codes require visually identifiable life-safety components, the RIBU1C-RD satisfies that requirement. It accepts two independent coil voltage inputs — 10-30 VAC/DC on the white/blue leads and 120VAC on the white/black leads — covering virtually every HVAC control voltage without stocking multiple coil variants. Gold flash contacts ensure reliable signal-level switching, and the relay carries Functional Devices' 10-year warranty with a rated mechanical life of 10 million cycles minimum.

Best for: Fire alarm, smoke control, and life-safety system applications requiring a 10-amp SPDT pilot relay with dual coil voltage flexibility and NEMA 1 Red rated housing.

10-Year Warranty

The RIBU1C-RD is backed by Functional Devices' industry-leading 10-year warranty — the longest standard warranty in the RIB product line. Functional Devices reports a field failure rate of approximately 1 in 16,000 units.

When to Specify the RIBU1C-RD vs. Standard RIBU1C

The RIBU1C-RD is electrically identical to the standard RIBU1C — same dual coil voltage input, same 10-amp SPDT contacts, same gold flash contacts, same dimensions. The difference is the red enclosure and additional UL864 / California State Fire Marshal listings. Many AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) and fire codes require that relays used in fire alarm and smoke control circuits be visually identifiable as life-safety components. The red housing satisfies this requirement. If your application involves smoke damper control, stairwell pressurization, fire pump interlock, or any relay in a UL864-listed fire alarm system, specify the RIBU1C-RD. For standard HVAC and BAS applications where UL864 is not required, the standard RIBU1C is appropriate.

Important — Electronic Ballast Rating & Coil Input Selection

The RIBU1C-RD is not rated for electronic ballast loads. Use for standard magnetic ballast and pilot duty rated loads only. When wiring the coil, use only one coil input at a time — either the 10-30 VAC/DC leads (white/blue) or the 120VAC leads (white/black). Cap off the unused leads. Never energize both coil inputs simultaneously.

Datasheets & Technical Documents
What does the dual coil voltage mean on the RIBU1C-RD?
The RIBU1C-RD has two separate coil input lead pairs — white/blue for 10-30 VAC/DC and white/black for 120VAC. Only one input is used at a time. Connect the leads matching your control voltage and cap off the other pair. This means one part number covers virtually all common HVAC control voltages without ordering different coil voltage variants.
What is the minimum coil voltage required to activate the RIBU1C-RD?
The pull-in voltage for the 10-30 VAC/DC input is 9VAC or 10VDC. The relay activates reliably across the full 10-30VAC/DC range. Drop-out voltage is 2.1VAC / 2.8VDC.
Why is the RIBU1C-RD enclosure red?
The red enclosure provides immediate visual identification of life-safety relays in mixed-use panels, which is required or preferred by many AHJs and fire codes. It also carries UL864 and California State Fire Marshal listings required for relays used in fire alarm and smoke control circuits.
Is the RIBU1C-RD rated for electronic ballast loads?
No. The RIBU1C-RD is not rated for electronic ballast. It is rated for standard magnetic ballast at 480 VA pilot duty at 277VAC.
Can I order the RIBU1C-RD in bulk packs?
Yes. Append -10PACK, -25PACK, or -100PACK to the model number when ordering.
Why does the RIBU1C-RD have gold flash contacts?
Gold flash contact plating ensures reliable switching of low-level signals where standard silver contacts can develop oxide film over time. Important in BAS applications switching low-current control signals rather than line-voltage loads.
