ACI has discontinued the A/CTE2-50. It is no longer available to order. Suggested replacement: ACI A/SCTE2-50.
The A/SCTE2-50 carries the same 0 to 10 / 20 / 50 A selectable ranges and the same 0 to 5 VDC output, but is split-core rather than solid-core. It opens around an existing conductor instead of requiring the conductor to be threaded through.

ACI A/CTE2-50 Voltage Output Analog Current Sensor

The ACI A/CTE2-50 is a solid-core AC analog current sensor that converts 0 to 10 / 20 / 50 A into a 0 to 5 VDC signal using average measurement. Accuracy is +/- 1% from 5% to 100% of selected range on the 0 to 10 A range.

The A/CTE2-50 uses averaging measurement, which assumes a pure sinusoidal waveform with little or no distortion on the monitored conductor. It is the correct and lower-cost choice for resistive and single-speed linear loads such as incandescent lighting, heating elements and across-the-line motors. Where the load is fed by a VFD or a switching supply, ACI directs users to the True RMS A/CTA2-RMS or A/SCTA2-RMS series instead.

Amperage range is field selectable across 0 to 10 / 20 / 50 A, so a single part number covers three spans and stock can be consolidated. Selecting the narrowest range that contains the expected load gives the best resolution, because accuracy is specified as a percentage of the selected range rather than of the maximum.

The output is a self-powered voltage signal. Power is induced from the monitored conductor, so there are only two wires to land and no external supply to provide. Keep the run short and use shielded 2-conductor cable, because a voltage signal is more susceptible to voltage drop and induced noise than a current loop.

The solid-core aperture requires the conductor to be threaded through the sensor, which suits new panel builds and OEM applications where the wiring is not yet terminated.

Specifications on this page are taken from the ACI SCTE2 / SCTV2 Voltage Output data sheet AC_DS-SCTE2-SCTV2 EN v1 0226 and Installation & Operation Instructions I0000790 Rev. 9.0.

Best For

  • Load trending and basic power monitoring on single-speed linear loads
  • LEED documentation and energy project ROI justification
  • Continuous amperage feedback to a BMS, PLC or DDC analog input
  • Preventative maintenance programs that need measured current, not just on/off status

Warranty

Five (5) Year Limited Warranty. Covered by ACI's Five (5) Year Limited Warranty. The warranty is published in the front of ACI's Sensors & Transmitters catalog and on the ACI website.

Key Features

Average Measurement

Averaging measurement for pure sinusoidal waveforms. Correct and cost-effective on resistive and single-speed linear loads.

Field-Selectable Ranges

One part number covers 0 to 10 / 20 / 50 A. Pick the narrowest span that contains the expected load for the best resolution.

0 to 5 VDC Output

Self-powered 2-wire voltage signal with no external supply required. Power is induced from the monitored conductor.

Solid-Core Aperture

Threaded aperture for new construction and OEM panel builds.

Published Accuracy

+/- 1% from 5% to 100% of selected range on the 0 to 10 A range; +/- 1% from 2% to 100% on all other ranges. All current output sensors are calibrated at an ambient room temperature of 71 °F (21.5 °C).

Patented DIN Rail Mounting Foot

Snaps onto 35 mm DIN rail for panel installation. U.S. Patent No. 7,416,421.

Disconnect and lock out all power sources before installation. Required by the ACI Installation & Operation Instructions. Installation must be performed by qualified personnel in compliance with all national and local electrical codes.

Range Selection and Commissioning

All models with selectable amperage ranges ship with the range selection jumper factory set on the high range; set the jumper to the correct range at commissioning. The selected range is the maximum current that may be applied to the monitored conductor and must not be exceeded. An extra jumper shunt is supplied and may be discarded if not needed; in high-vibration installations ACI recommends using the jumper shunt without the tab.

Frequently Asked Questions

What output signal does the ACI A/CTE2-50 produce?

The A/CTE2-50 produces a 0 to 5 VDC signal. It is self-powered, drawing its energy from the monitored conductor, so no external supply is required.

What amperage ranges does the ACI A/CTE2-50 cover?

The A/CTE2-50 covers 0 to 10 / 20 / 50 A, selectable in the field. Accuracy is specified as a percentage of the selected range, so choosing the narrowest range that contains the expected load gives the best resolution.

Can the ACI A/CTE2-50 be used downstream of a variable frequency drive?

No. This sensor uses averaging measurement, which assumes a pure sinusoidal waveform. For VFDs, switching power supplies and other distorted waveforms, ACI directs users to the True RMS A/CTA2-RMS or A/SCTA2-RMS series.

What is the published accuracy of the ACI A/CTE2-50?

+/- 1% from 5% to 100% of selected range on the 0 to 10 A range; +/- 1% from 2% to 100% on all other ranges. All ACI current output sensors are calibrated at an ambient room temperature of 71 °F (21.5 °C).

Is the ACI A/CTE2-50 solid-core or split-core?

The A/CTE2-50 is solid-core. Solid-core units require the conductor to be threaded through the aperture.
