Specifications from the BAPI Outdoor Light Level Sensor datasheet (Rev. 07/16/24) and Installation and Operating Instructions 38244_ins_Light_Level (rev. 07/17/24), with warranty terms from BAPI's published terms and conditions, reviewed October 6, 2026.
The BAPI Outdoor Light Level Sensor conserves energy by allowing lights to be shut off when the ambient light level exceeds a specified level, and helps keep sites safe by allowing lights to be turned on when ambient light falls below a specified level. The BA/LLV-20-LX[0 TO 2000] is the 4 to 20 mA output version with a 0 to 2,000 lux range. It mounts on top of a building or structure in direct sunlight with a north-facing orientation, and its base carries 1/2 in NPSM threads that screw into a conduit fitting.
Best For
- Outdoor and parking lot lighting control that switches lights off when ambient light exceeds a set level and back on when it falls below
- Building automation controllers with a 4 to 20 mA analog input
- Mounting on top of a building or structure in direct sunlight, facing north, threaded into a 1/2 in conduit fitting
- Exterior exposure from -40 to 185°F in an IP66, NEMA 4 enclosure

Frequently Asked Questions
What output does the BAPI BA/LLV-20-LX[0 TO 2000] provide?
A 4 to 20 mA analog output across a 0 to 2,000 lux measurement range, wired to a controller analog input.
What power supply does the BA/LLV-20-LX[0 TO 2000] need?
12 to 28 VDC, 22 mA max for the 4 to 20 mA output.
How is the BA/LLV-20-LX[0 TO 2000] wired?
Red wire to 12 to 28 VDC and the black wire carries the 4 to 20 mA signal to the controller analog input. The white or green wire is not used. BAPI recommends the supplied sealant filled connectors for field terminations.
Where should an outdoor light level sensor be mounted?
On top of the building or structure in direct sunlight, facing north. Keep it at least 24 in from the wall, clear of awnings or other projections within 15 ft, and away from building corners. If it cannot be roof mounted with an unobstructed view of the horizon, keep it away from economizers, intake or exhaust fans, barometric dampers and other reflective surfaces.
How does the BA/LLV-20-LX[0 TO 2000] mount?
The base has 1/2 in NPSM threads that screw into a conduit fitting.
How accurate is the BA/LLV-20-LX[0 TO 2000] in low light?
Accuracy is 10 Lux ±10% of reading, and the sensor responds in dim lighting below 10 foot candles (108 lux).
How do foot candles convert to lux?
One foot candle equals 10.76 lux, and one lux equals 0.0929 foot candles. The BA/LLV-20-LX[0 TO 2000] reads in lux; BAPI builds the same sensor with a 0 to 875 foot candle range as a separate part number, and custom ranges are available from BAPI in either unit.
What warranty covers the BA/LLV-20-LX[0 TO 2000]?
BAPI warrants the sensor against defects in materials and workmanship for five years from the date of sale, and repairs or replaces products found defective within that period under BAPI's terms and conditions.
How is the sensor maintained?
Inspect the sensor window regularly and keep it free of debris. Clean it with a wet rag or glass cleaner. If readings are off, verify the termination and supply voltage and confirm the window is clean and pointing north.
