ASE CDP-2 : Snow Sensor Control/Display Panel
Introducing the CDP-2 Snow Sensor Control/Display Panel, a convenient indoor monitoring and control solution for your snow melt system. With the CDP-2, you no longer have to rely on guesswork to determine if your system has been triggered. A quick glance at the CDP-2 provides you with the confirmation you need. This panel is compatible with all DS Series rain/snow sensor controllers, ensuring seamless integration.
The CDP-2 features a durable electronic printed circuit board securely mounted on a steel plate. With dimensions of 4.1" (104) x 1.8" (45) x 0.9" (23) and weighing just 2.5 ounces, it easily fits into any standard single gang or multi-gang electrical enclosure. The package includes self-threading mounting screws that work with both metal and plastic enclosures. Additionally, the plate is designed with mounting holes to accommodate a rectangular "modular" cover plate, similar to the Leviton Decora® or Hubbell StyleLine™ series. This allows you to choose a cover plate color and material that matches your room's decor.
Wiring the CDP-2 is a breeze. Simply connect an interconnect cable (see below) between the CDP-2 and the companion snow sensor. The interconnect cable carries very low voltage signals, eliminating the need for conduit or additional cable protection. The individual leads of the interconnect cable can be easily connected to the rear terminal block of the CDP-2, and the panel is ready for operation. Unlike other systems, the CDP-2 is self-powered and doesn't require batteries or an AC power connection. It cleverly harnesses parasitic voltage from the snow sensor, with a peak power consumption of only 3.5 milliwatts. The electronic components of the CDP-2 can withstand temperatures ranging from -40°C to +85°C, making it suitable for indoor or outdoor installation with proper protection from the elements.
The CDP-2 provides both control and reporting capabilities for the snow sensor. It even indicates the sensor's override switch position. The "Manual On" feature activates the snow sensor and the associated equipment for a single "delay off" cycle. The duration of the delay off cycle depends on the DEL switch setting and the DEL adjustment on the snow sensor, ranging from 2 minutes in "sensor" mode to 30-90 minutes or 2-6 hours in "controller" mode. This functionality is useful for testing purposes or addressing specific operational conditions such as clearing hail buildup or heavily drifted snow. It saves you from incurring unnecessary expenses by avoiding continuous "Manual On" operation. The "Automatic" position allows the sensor to handle all detections and control, while the system always returns to "Automatic" mode once a "Manual On" cycle is completed. When the sensor is activated, the "Deice On" indicator illuminates. The "Standby" position disables triggering, even in the presence of snow, and can also be used to reset the delay off timer after a genuine or test activation.
To differentiate between the older "B" version and the newer "C" version of the CDP-2, look for the color of the pushbuttons. The older version has white pushbuttons, while the newer version, which includes an external Standby connection, features yellow pushbuttons. For reference, both versions' manuals are provided below.
