The Contemporary Controls EISK8-100T/FCS Skorpion Switch is an 8-port unmanaged Ethernet switch combining 6 RJ-45 copper ports (10/100 Mbps) with 2 fibre uplink ports (100 Mbps) with two SC-connector single-mode fibre uplinks for long-distance runs of up to 15 km each. The fibre ports are preset for full-duplex operation, while the copper ports auto-negotiate speed and duplex. A half-wave rectified low-voltage power supply accepts 10-36 VDC or 24 VAC, allowing the switch to share a common 24VAC control bus with actuators, sensors, and other field devices. A writable side label lets the installer document each cable run right on the unit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which FCS model do I need: FC, FT, or FCS?
For shorter mid-distance runs (up to 2 km) using less expensive multimode fibre, see the EISK8-100T/FC (multimode SC) or EISK8-100T/FT (multimode ST). All three variants share the same hardware (6 copper ports, 41 mm wide, UL 508 listed, half-wave rectified PSU) and differ only in the fibre ports: connector type and mode. Match your existing fibre patch panels, media converters, or peer switches to avoid an incompatible link.
What can I do with the two fibre ports?
The dual fibre ports unlock several common architectures. Daisy-chain: connect cabinet A to cabinet B to cabinet C in series, using one fibre port as "in" and one as "out" at intermediate cabinets. Ring topology: connect a series of switches in a closed loop for traffic flow flexibility (note: this is a passive ring, not a managed RSTP/MRP ring — without a managed switch in the loop, you must avoid creating a true Layer-2 loop). Dual upstream: connect both fibre ports to two different upstream switches or media converters for path diversity (again, only one path active at a time to avoid loops). Bridging: span two physically separated copper segments through a single cabinet.
Why are the fibre ports full-duplex only?
The 100BASE-FX standard defines fibre links as full-duplex by default in industrial and commercial deployments. The EISK8-100T/FCS's two fibre ports are preset for 100 Mbps full-duplex operation to deliver maximum performance and reliability without auto-negotiation overhead. Make sure the device on the other end of each fibre link is also configured for 100 Mbps full-duplex to prevent duplex mismatch errors.
Can the EISK8-100T/FCS be installed in a UL 508A control panel?
Yes. The EISK8-100T/FCS is UL 508 Listed and c-UL Listed for Industrial Control Equipment. UL 508-listed components are directly acceptable for use in UL 508A panels without invalidating the panel listing, as long as the device is supplied from a Class 2 limited-energy source per the panel's circuit requirements.
Can I power the switch from my existing 24VAC control bus?
Yes. The EISK8-100T/FCS uses a half-wave rectified low-voltage power supply, which means it can share a common 24VAC source with other control devices such as actuators, valves, sensors, and thermostats. Power draw is 4 W on DC or 8 VA on AC — somewhat higher than copper-only Skorpion models due to the two fibre transceivers, so size your transformer accordingly.
What do the per-port LEDs indicate?
Each copper port has two LEDs. The top "Speed" LED glows solid green when the link is operating at 100 Mbps and is unlit when the link is at 10 Mbps. The bottom "Link/Activity" LED glows solid green when a link is established and flashes when data is being transmitted or received. To distinguish "no link" from "10 Mbps link", check the Link/Activity LED — if it's also off, there's no link; if it's solid green, the link is up at 10 Mbps. Each fibre port has one LED that glows solid green when linked to a working 100BASE-FX peer and flashes during data transmission. A separate green Power LED confirms supply status.
Is the EISK8-100T/FCS suitable for outdoor installations?
No. The EISK8-100T/FCS has an indoor operating range of 0°C to +60°C and IP30 protection, and is not rated for outdoor or extreme-temperature applications. Outdoor or wide-temperature deployments require a weather-rated enclosure or a switch rated for the conditions.
