The Senva EM-RS485-RPM is a compact, revenue-grade (ANSI C12.20 Class 0.2, 0.2% meter accuracy) multi-channel energy meter with BACnet MS/TP, Modbus RTU, and Modbus ASCII over 2-wire RS-485, configured with a reduced point map for simple integration (field-changeable to the full point map). Its meter base is entirely low-voltage — all high-voltage connections live in the plug-in CVT Current/Voltage Transducers (sold separately) — and it self-configures baud rate, serial format, protocol, and address on the network. 1% system accuracy with CVTs, 2 pulse inputs, DIN/screw/magnetic mounting, and made in the USA by Senva, Inc. (Buy American Act, BABAA, ARRA, and TAA conformant).

Senva EM-RS485-RPM Multi-Channel Energy Meter

The EM Series is the safest and fastest meter to install on the market. The unique design keeps the meter entirely low-voltage: the high-voltage components are embedded in the Current/Voltage Transducer (CVT), making it ideal for retrofits. The meter recognizes CVTs automatically — eliminating time-consuming CT scaling — and each CVT communicates digitally for superior noise immunity, with 1% total system accuracy.

This RPM version ships with a reduced point map for simple, fast BAS integration and can be field-changed to the full point map whenever richer data is needed. On the network side, the meter features self-configuring, plug-and-play BACnet MS/TP alongside Modbus RTU and Modbus ASCII, auto-enrolling with baud rate, serial format, protocol type, and address configured automatically. Two pulse inputs aggregate additional water, gas, steam, or electric meters.

Key Features

Revenue-Grade Accuracy

0.2% meter accuracy to ANSI C12.20 Class 0.2 standards and 1% system accuracy with CVTs for V, A, kW, kVAR, and kVA — suitable for tenant billing, and meets the WA State Clean Buildings bill.

Entirely Low-Voltage Meter Base

All high-voltage connections are contained in the CVT — the safest, fastest meter install on the market, and the base can be located outside the panel.

Plug-and-Play CVT Recognition

Each digitally calibrated CVT is automatically recognized and scaled by the meter — no manual CT scaling, and CVTs can move between meters without losing accuracy.

Self-Configuring Network

Auto-enrolls on the trunk: baud rate, serial format, protocol type, and address are self-configured over BACnet MS/TP, Modbus RTU, or Modbus ASCII at 9600–115200 baud.

True 3-Channel Mix & Match

Three independent meter channels accept different voltages and currents per phase — ideal for HVAC equipment and mixed loads, or sum them for a single total.

Reduced Point Map

Ships with a streamlined point map for fast, simple BAS integration — field-changeable to the full point map whenever deeper data is needed.

Technical Specifications

Specifications verified against the Senva EM Series datasheets and the EM Series Certificate of Accuracy; trade compliance per the 2026 Senva Commerce Declaration.

Fusing NoteFusing typically not required: per UL 240.21 tap-rule guidance, Senva CVTs may tap conductors without overcurrent protection; EM Series meters ship with no more than 10 ft of voltage reference wire per CVT. Runs over 20 ft require appropriate overcurrent protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a revenue-grade meter?

Yes. The EM Series meets ANSI C12.20 Class 0.2 standards (0.2% meter accuracy), commonly referred to as ANSI revenue grade, and meets the performance standards of the Washington State Clean Buildings bill. System accuracy with CVTs is 1% for V, A, kW, kVAR, and kVA.

What CTs does this meter use?

It uses Senva CVT Current/Voltage Transducers exclusively (sold separately). Each CVT carries the high-voltage connection, senses both voltage and current, and communicates digitally with the meter — standard 0.333V CTs and analog Rogowski coils are not compatible. For 0.333V CT or analog Rogowski input, see the Senva EMX series.

What is the Reduced Point Map (RPM)?

The EM-RS485-RPM ships with a streamlined subset of the BACnet/Modbus point map, making integration into a BAS faster and simpler. It is field-changeable to the full point map at any time, so no capability is permanently given up.

Does the installation require fusing?

Typically no. Under UL 240.21 tap-rule guidance, Senva CVTs may tap conductors without overcurrent protection, and Senva ships EM Series meters with no more than 10 feet of voltage reference wire per CVT. If a voltage reference run must exceed 20 feet, appropriate overcurrent protection (such as the CVT-FUSE kit) is required.

Can I mix different CVT sizes on one meter?

Yes. The meter operates as a true 3-channel device: each channel independently recognizes its CVT and auto-scales, so different amperage ranges and voltages can be mixed per phase — ideal for HVAC equipment and mixed loads.

Is this meter Buy American Act compliant?

Yes. The EM Series is manufactured in the USA by Senva in Beaverton, Oregon, and conforms to the Buy American Act, Build America Buy America Act (BABAA), ARRA Section 1605, and the Trade Agreements Act (TAA). The signed 2026 conformance declaration is available in the documentation section above.
